At the end of a mile-long driveway, Mas des Oiseaux is a large, elegant stone house encompassed by 50 acres of rolling lavender fields. Large open spaces and panoramic views give a feeling of complete tranquility and privacy.

This is the essence of Provence: Lavender fields, cherry trees, stone walls, and nothing but the sounds of nature surround this authentic old farm.

Perfect for large families with children, this house is truly most comfortable for 15 guests maximum, though can accommodate up to 10 adults and 6 or even 9 young children in exceptional circumstances. Please do inquire to discuss further.

The unique cottage house is designed as a wonderful children's space, and is accessible by outdoor entrance, or by interior access through Bedroom #3 on the second story.

There is a fantastic Master Suite on the second story as well, with a stunning bathroom and terrace. All rooms are designed for comfort and ease for larger groups.

The outdoor spaces here define the ambiance of Provence, where guests can enjoy long meals under the large Platanes trees and gorgeous terrace, utilize the extensive outdoor kitchen space, and swim for hours in the large pool set beneath the stone terrace.

It is important to note that this house sits at the end of a mile-long rough gravel track, which is fabulous for privacy and for creating a peaceful setting, though also takes time to navigate and does wear on car tires.

Two week minimum rentals are required from mid July to mid August.

Just wanted to send you an email to follow-up our stay a Mas des Oiseaux. It was magnificent !!! We had a wonderful time. The house was beautiful and so well equipped. Our first dinner we ate in the “summer kitchen” but every other dinner we ate outside overlooking the lavender fields and the beautiful views from every direction. Since we were three families and each one rented a car everyone could do ‘their own thing’ during the day and then we all met for dinner complete with a l-o-n-g cocktail hour (strictly local wines). Some days we stayed home and enjoyed the pool and quietness other days we visited the local towns which were simply lovely. The weather was perfect. We cooked at home every day except for the delicious meal Marie prepared for us. She was delightful and didn’t seem to mind our questions about what she was doing in the kitchen. We had a few solvable issues like getting wi fi to work which was really too much for Miriam to handle (although she certainly tried) and then when she came on Wednesday she “didn’t have time’ to mop the kitchen floor. These were minor issues and in no way caused any inconvenience. It was simply a wonderful family vacation.

The property is truly beautiful, I think we probably saw the lavender at its best! And our children loved picking raspberries every day.
The house is beautifully decorated and very spacious, I don't think the photos adequately capture this. The location was great, easy to visit a number of lovely villages in the area, we also went hot air ballooning.

One negative - the flies! We are very used to flies in Australia, but we have never seen a fly in Paris,so we were surprised there were so many flies. More fly screens on windows (many were broken upstairs), insect repellent, fly swats perhaps?? There were lots of dead flies around the house after a few days.

Only Provence response: We had reports of unusual amounts of flies across Provence this summer from the heat wave. Most houses do not have screens as the flies and mosquitos are not enough of a problem in a normal year.

The house was fantastic. The location couldn’t have been more beautiful — surrounded by fields of lavender with a view of the Luberon valley. And the town, St. Saturnin Les Apt, was quite charming.

Areas for improvement:
The drive up the 2 km gravel road is a little bumpy, but to be expected. And the bees around the pool are intimidating, but they never bothered anyone. Probably had something to do with the surrounding fields of blooming lavender.

I would definitely recommend all to friends. Our trip/house/food were all great. Was a lovely week without any real surprises.

What star rating would you give Mas des Oiseaux? (1 is lowest and 5 is the highest) — 5*
What star rating would you give Only Provence? — 5*
What star rating would you give Chefs/ Tours you experienced? — 5*

— Our vacation booked through Only Provence couldn’t have gone better, nor could the process have been easier. We would gladly use them for our next trip to Provence.

— Mas des Oiseaux is a charming house, rustic but elegant, with breathtaking views of the Luberon Valley. It couldn’t be more picturesque.

Locale

Saint Saturnin les Apt is a large village in the Luberon built on a rock, over which two 17th century windmills and the ruins of a medieval chateau keep watch.

Despite the new housing developments which surround this market town, Saint Saturnin is a village brimming with history.

Take your time walking through the central streets and you will discover beautiful old houses, adorned with sculptured porches and intricately decorated doors and window frames.

In the area of the ramparts you will see three walled enclosures built in the 13th, 14th, and 15th century. Only the remains of the Ayguier gate exist today.

All around the village, the magnificent countryside will tempt you to go for long walks... do not forget that you are in the Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon!

What to see:

Ruins of the chateau and the 9th century chapel.

Windmills, ramparts, doors and towers from the 15th century

Priory St Pierre d'Agnane. Old Templar house of St Maurice.

Getting here:
The easiest way to get to Inland Provence from the US is to fly to Marseilles International Airport (MRS). If you would like to see Paris, fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport then connect directly to the TGV(high speed train) from CDG TGV2 to Avignon TGV(3 hours direct) and rent a car. You would plan to see Paris on the way back, taking the TGV from Avignon TGV to Gare de Lyon, getting a cab to your hotel in the city.
